The Los Angeles Rams held on for a 26-25 victory over the New York Giants in what turned out to be a total nail-biter, prevailing on a missed 54-yard field goal try from recently signed kicker Mason Crosby.
Offensive spotlight: Rams running back Kyren Williams did not have his most efficient day on the ground between the twenties, but he delivered where it mattered most, scoring three touchdowns, including a 28-yard dash where he exploded through the hole, bounced outside and evaded the outstretched arms of would-be tacklers.
Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton hauled in an absolute rocket from Tyrod Taylor for an 80-yard touchdown, with Slayton getting behind the Rams secondary and Taylor uncorking the ball well over 50 yards through the air.
Wan’Dale Robinson added 55 yards on six receptions and a 24-yard touchdown run. Robinson has produced seemingly every week the Giants field a competent passing attack.
Defensive spotlight: Rams superstar interior defender Aaron Donald recorded two sacks and two more tackles for loss on the afternoon, but the real story on defense has been the continued emergence of interior defender Kobie Turner and edge defender Byron Young. Turner recorded 2.5 sacks in this game and now leads all rookies at all positions with nine and counting on the year, and Young added one of his own to get up to seven on the season, top-five among rookies.
Giants safety Dane Belton came in the game for an injured Jason Pinnock and proceeded to come down with not one but two interceptions of Matthew Stafford. Linebacker Bobby Okereke tallied 1.5 sacks and another tackle for loss.
Rookie spotlight: Rams rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua hauled in explosive reception after explosive reception despite getting dinged up in this one, with several great runs after the catch, including a long of 80 yards, finishing the contest with five receptions for 118 yards. Nacua helped the Rams get into scoring range several times with key grabs.
Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt had three receptions for 25 yards, and veteran Tyrod Taylor always seems to bring more out of him, given his ability to move the ball down the field consistently.
