NFL Week 14 Game Recap: New Orleans Saints 28, Carolina Panthers 6

The New Orleans Saints comfortably overcame the struggling Carolina Panthers, 28-6, at home in Week 14.

Offensive spotlight: The stats won’t blow anybody away, but this was an excellent performance from Saints quarterback Derek Carr, particularly given that he is battling through broken rib cartilage and is missing multiple offensive weapons. Carr completed 18 of his 26 passes for 119 yards, averaging just 4.6 yards per attempt. But he finished with an 81.8% adjusted completion rate, and some of his better plays didn’t show up in the box score.

Defensive spotlight: Multiple New Orleans cornerbacks have had outstanding games this season, and this week it was Isaac Yiadom‘s turn. The Boston College product was thrown at six times and didn’t allow a single catch, forcing three of the incompletions directly. Yiadom spent most of his time in aggressive man coverage and made it count.

Rookie spotlight: Bryce Young had another ugly outing at quarterback after the team relieved Frank Reich of head coaching duties. Young averaged a miserable 3.7 yards per attempt and recorded a poor 43.8% adjusted completion rate. As has been the case all season, it was far from all Young’s fault, but he didn’t do much to improve the situation outside of a few positive scrambles.
