The Houston Texans shocked the Cincinnati Bengals 30-27 in Week 10, thanks to some more late-game heroics from C.J. Stroud.
The Bengals turned their opening drive into a touchdown, with Joe Burrow connecting with Trenton Irwin from 32 yards out. That was the only score in the first quarter, but C.J. Stroud and Tank Dell connected from six yards out to tie the game up early in the second. A pair of Matt Ammendola field goals on either side of the half made it 13-7 to the Texans early in the third quarter before Devin Singletary scored on a six-yard run to make it 20-7. Evan McPherson was successful on a 50-yard field goal to reduce the deficit to 10, scoring the Bengals' first points since the opening-drive touchdown. They they were soon within three thanks to a 64-yard touchdown from Joe Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase.
Just as it looked like the Bengals were back in the game though, the Texans went right down the field and scored on a C.J. Stroud run to go back up by 10. The game looked to be over before a Stroud interception set the Bengals up for a Joe Mixon touchdown to bring the Bengals back within three with just over three minutes left in the game. McPherson would tie it up late in the fourth quarter, but C.J. Stroud would drive the Bengals into field goal range for Matt Ammendola to win it from 38 yards out.
Offensive spotlight: In a game where he was without wide receiver Tee Higgins, and had Ja’Marr Chase limited in practice all week, Joe Burrow was up and down in this one. He went 27-for-40 for 347 yards but had a pair of interceptions to go along with a pair of touchdowns.
C.J. Stroud continues to look like the NFL isn’t too big for him as a rookie. He went 23-for-39 for 356 yards and a touchdown in this one and rushed for a touchdown too. He did have a poor interception late in the game that let the Bengals back into it, but bounced back with the game-winning drive. Devin Singletary led the way on the ground, rushing for 150 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.
Defensive spotlight: One of the biggest concerns for the Bengals will be an injury to edge defender Trey Hendrickson late in the game. He had earned a PFF grade of 89.4 coming into this game and is one of the best players on a very talented defense in Cincinnati. The Bengals have a quick turnaround with a trip to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Rookie spotlight: Tank Dell was once again a big factor for the Texans on offense. Targeted 14 times in the win today, he caught six passes for 56 yards and a shifty touchdown.
