The Detroit Lions outlasted the Los Angeles Chargers in a shootout with both teams going back and forth late in the game only for Riley Patterson to deliver a game-winning 41-yard field goal in the dying seconds to move Detroit to 7-2 on the year.
Offensive spotlight: The Lions offense was clicking in all aspects of the game this week with Jared Goff throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns while the run game did significant damage early in the game. David Montgomery returned to the lineup after missing two games with a rib injury and while his running mate Jahmyr Gibbs took over the goalline work, he found ways to be productive by ripping off a 75-yard touchdown run in this one. Montgomery totaled 116 rushing yards on 12 carries on the day. Amon-Ra St. Brown was the primary receiving weapon for Goff, as usual, leading the team with 156 yards on eight receptions.

The Chargers got off to a rocky start with an early Justin Herbert interception, but he steadied the ship the rest of the way as he threw the ball 40 times for 27 completions, 323 yards and four touchdowns. Keenan Allen was dominant again, as he saw 14 targets thrown his way, coming up 11 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Allen left the game for a stint with a shoulder injury prior to scoring his second touchdown but appeared to be fine as he took his first reception back in the game for a 38-yard touchdown. Austin Ekeler ran the ball 19 times for 67 yards and punched in a touchdown while adding four receptions for 48 receiving yards.
Defensive spotlight: Defense was optional for both teams this week as there wasn’t even a single sack recorded for either side. The lone turnover belonged to Kerby Joseph who picked off Herbert in the first quarter on a pass intended for Gerald Everett.
Rookie spotlight: Jahmyr Gibbs flashed his talent early and often in this game as he carried the ball 14 times for 77 rushing yards and found the endzone twice in the first half. Gibbs also added three catches for 35 yards to get up over 100 all-purpose yards on the day.

Quentin Johnston scored his first NFL touchdown at a crucial moment of this game with the Chargers down by a touchdown and passing on fourth-and-one from the one-yard line. Johnston also drew a big defensive pass interference penalty on fourth down to keep that that same drive alive. The rookie first-round pick finished the day with four catches for 34 yards to go along with his score.
