Offensive spotlight: Young got off to a shaky start in the first quarter but found Hayden Hurst for an easy touchdown in the second quarter. Unfortunately, that touchdown was about as good as it would get for Young in this game, as the offense only added one field goal for the rest of the game. Young threw two interceptions on 20-for-38 and just 146 passing yards for a 48.8 NFL passer rating.

Defensive spotlight: The Falcons defense, led by new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, got off to a hot start that included a big fourth down stop inside its own red zone and an interception inside of Carolina’s 20-yard line, both in the first quarter. That interception led to a touchdown Falcons’ offense. New free agent safety Jessie Bates made a significant impact in his first game for Atlanta coming up with two interceptions and two defensive stops.

Panthers’ star edge defender Brian Burns was questionable to play in this game earlier in the week due to a contract dispute, but he suited up and made his case to get paid for his play on the field. Burns posted 1.5 sacks that included a forced fumble to go along with five (unofficial) defensive stops and three (unofficial) pressures.

Rookie spotlight: Bijan Robinson showcased his star quality in this game, commanding six targets in the passing game that led to six receptions for 27 receiving yards and a highlight-reel touchdown. He also handled just 40% of the team's running back carries, which led to 56 rushing yards. Robinson unofficially forced five missed tackles as both a receiver and runner, leading the team.
