The deal comes on the final day of the franchise tag window after earlier reports suggested Landry was a prime candidate to be tagged. Clearly, the two sides were very close to inking a big-time deal, one that ranks ninth among edge defenders in terms of per-year average and eighth in total guarantees.
Landry recorded a career-best 12 sacks in his age-25 season, logging over 950 snaps for the third straight year as one of the true iron men on the edge. The Titans signed edge defender Bud Dupree to a five-year, $82.5 million contract in the 2021 offseason and now have both players locked up for the foreseeable future.

Interior defender Jeffery Simmons — the Titans' 2019 first-round pick — will be next in line for a big deal on defense, perhaps looking to eclipse the $20 million per year mark. On the offensive side of the ball, 2019 second-round pick wide receiver A.J. Brown could be looking to eclipse the $20 million per year mark this offseason.
Tennessee fell short in the 2021-22 playoffs after earning the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye, but they clearly still see a window to contend for a Super Bowl in a very weak AFC South division.
The Titans are currently +100 to win the AFC South on DraftKings sportsbook, and with Landry back in the fold, they don't stand to lose any top contributors from the 2021 roster.
