The Baltimore Ravens‘ storied preseason win streak finally came to an end Monday night, as John Harbaugh's team fell to the Washington Commanders 29-28 in Landover, Md.
The preseason Week 2 game featured five lead changes and got off to a fast start, with the teams combining for 31 points over the first 30 minutes of action.
With three minutes remaining and his team down by 2 points, Commanders QB Jake Fromm orchestrated a 51-yard drive to put Joey Slye in position to kick the game-winning field goal.
Quarterback Sam Howell looked comfortable in his first preseason game as Washington's confirmed regular-season starter, going 19-of-25 for 188 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in his two quarters of action.
NFL journeyman Josh Johnson got the start under center for the Ravens and looked sharp from the get-go, completing three of his four passes for 50 yards and a score on a 75-yard opening drive. Johnson finished 10-of-12 for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
Offensive spotlight: Commanders quarterback Sam Howell completed 19 of his 25 pass attempts for 188 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in his two quarters of action. He was aggressive, throwing the ball 8.5 yards down the field on average and 52.0% of attempts past the first-down marker, but he still recorded an impressive 79.2% adjusted completion percentage on the night.
Defensive spotlight: Third-year cornerback Ar'Darius Washington did his job against Washington's slot receivers. He allowed three catches from three targets, but those catches went for just 20 yards. He allowed just one first down and produced two defensive stops.
Rookie spotlight: Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers dominated the opening drive, catching two passes for 37 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Twenty-eight of his yards came after the catch, and he forced two missed tackles along the way.
Offensive line spotlight: The Commanders' first-string offensive line looked good in the first half of this one. According to PFF's first review of the game film, they allowed just two hurries from 24 pass-blocking snaps.
