The Chicago Bears defeated Seattle Seahawks 27-11 in Week 2 of the 2022 NFL preseason.
Quarterback spotlight
- Justin Fields: 5/7 for 29 passing yards, a 71.4% adjusted completion rate and a 60.1 passing grade on first review. He recorded zero big-time throws and turnover-worthy plays. Fields threw short of the sticks on 71.4% of his passes. He also scrambled once, resulting in one rushing yard.
- Geno Smith: 10/18 for 112 yards, an 86.7% adjusted completion rate and an 80.7 passing grade on first review. He recorded three big-time throws and zero turnover-worthy plays while sustaining three dropped passes. Smith finished with a 6.9-yard average depth of target.
Offensive player of the game: Bears TE Cole Kmet only ran five routes Thursday night, but he hauled two catches for 31 yards and two first downs. He finished with an impressive 90.0-plus grade on first review.
Seahawks RB Travis Homer also played at a high level, as he totaled 44 rushing yards from just five carries, resulting in a notable 85.0-plus rushing grade on first review.
Defensive player of the game: Bears LB DeMarquis Gates put together a notable performance Thursday night, especially as a run defender, as he finished with two tackles — both of which were deemed run stops — en route to an 82.0-plus run-defense grade on first review. Gates finished with an outstanding -2.00-yard average depth of tackle.
Rookie of the game: Outside of Sanborn, Bears rookie CB Kyler Gordon proved to be up to the test when targeted Thursday night, as he was targeted twice, resulting in one reception for 12 yards. Gordon finished with a 90.0-plus coverage grade on first review. Additionally, Gordon played press coverage on four of his 11 snaps in coverage.
