The offseason is here and free agency is just around the corner. The Chicago Bears lead the way with over $85 million in effective cap space while both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints are already $50-plus million in the red.
Here is a stat to know for each of the top-25 free agents, per PFF’s free agent rankings:
1. QB Lamar Jackson
Stat to know: Jackson has arguably been the least supported star quarterback in the NFL, as the Ravens' wide receivers rank dead last in PFF grade since 2019. Despite this, Jackson has a 93.1 passing grade on 10-plus-yard throws during this span – along with a 92.7 rushing grade.
2. QB Geno Smith
Stat to know: Smith led all quarterbacks with 14 passing TDs on 20-plus-yard throws in 2022.
3. DI Javon Hargrave
Stat to know: Hargrave’s 91.1 pass-rushing grade in 2022 ranked fifth in the NFL and third among interior defenders.
4. S Jessie Bates III
Stat to know: Bates was PFF’s highest-graded safety in 2020 and ranks fourth among all safeties since then.
5. CB Jamel Dean
Stat to know: Dean has been the NFL's fourth most valuable cornerback. per PFF's wins above replacement metric since 2020.
6. LB Lavonte David
Stat to know: David has the highest coverage grade among linebackers since 2019 (92.7).
7. WR Jakobi Meyers
Stat to know: Meyers recorded a 119.6 passer rating when targeted in 2022 – a career-high and good enough for sixth among receivers with at least 65 targets.
8. OT Orlando Brown Jr.
Stat to know: During the second half of the 2022 season (Weeks 10-18), Brown's 88.7 pass-blocking grade ranked third among all tackles.
9. DI Daron Payne
Stat to know: Payne ranked ninth in pressures (48) and fourth in sacks (11.5) among interior defenders this season. Since 2020, Payne ranks second in run stops (97) among interior defensive linemen.
10. QB Derek Carr
Stat to know: Carr ranks tied for third with Justin Herbert in 20-plus-yard passing TDs since 2020 (28).
11. OT Mike McGlinchey
Stat to know: McGlinchey ranks 10th among offensive tackles in run-blocking grade since 2018 (86.1).
12. RB Josh Jacobs
Stat to know: In 2022, Jacobs ranked first among RBs in a multitude of categories, but breaking the PFF single-season record for missed tackles forced on runs – passing Marshawn Lynch in 2014 – with 90 may be the most impressive.
13. RB Saquon Barkley
Stat to know: This season Barkley set career highs in:
- Rushing Grade (85.0)
- Rushing yards (1,312)
- First down runs (62)
- 10-plus-yard runs (32)
14. QB Daniel Jones
Stat to know: In his first season under Brian Daboll, Jones recorded an 84.4 rushing grade (sixth among quarterbacks) while posting an NFL-leading 81.1% adjusted completion percentage.
15. CB James Bradberry
Stat to know: Super Bowl-deciding penalties aside, Bradberry has forced the most incompletions (35) among corners over the last two seasons.
16. OT Jawaan Taylor
Stat to know: Taylor allowed pressure on just 2.9% of his pass-blocking snaps – good enough for fifth among tackles.
17. LB Tremaine Edmunds
Stat to know: Edmunds’ 88.9 coverage grade in 2022 ranked first among all linebackers.
18. DI Dalvin Tomlinson
Stat to know: Tomlinson has never missed more than five tackles in a season in his career.
19. S Jordan Poyer
Stat to know: Since joining the Buffalo Bills in 2017, Poyer has an elite 91.9 coverage grade.
20. TE Dalton Schultz
Stat to know: Schultz has been a top-10 tight end in PFF WAR in each of the last three seasons.
21. EDGE Marcus Davenport
Stat to know: Davenport has recorded a 70-plus PFF grade in every season he has been in the league.
22. DI Dre'Mont Jones
Stat to know: Jones’ 14.5% pressure percentage since 2019 ranks eighth among interior defenders.
23. CB Cameron Sutton
Stat to know: This season, Sutton ranked ninth among corners with 13 forced incompletions and forced an incompletion on 18.3% of his targets – also ninth at his position.
24. DL Zach Allen
Stat to know: Allen set career-highs in PFF grade (71.4), pass-rushing grade (71.6) and run-defense grade (67.4) in 2022.
25. DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
Stat to know: In Weeks 1-12, before going down with an injury, Gardner-Johnson intercepted a pass on 15% of his coverage targets, which ranked first among all defensive backs with a minimum of 25 targets.
