Few things are more important to a team’s success than the quality of its offensive line. Disastrous lines, or even disastrous weak-link mismatches, can determine the outcome of games, while strong units provide an incredible advantage to an offense.
We will be monitoring NFL offensive line play all season long while highlighting the biggest weak-link players for each group. With Week 7 of the 2023 NFL regular season in the books, here are the weekly rankings and each unit's best player.
Key:
Red text = weakest link
1. Detroit Lions (No change)
Projected Week 8 starters:
LT Taylor Decker
LG Graham Glasgow
C Frank Ragnow
RG Halapoulivaati Vaitai
RT Penei Sewell
- Although right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai returned to the lineup following his Week 2 injury, left guard Jonah Jackson was inactive against the Ravens, which resulted in Graham Glasgow playing at left guard after he had slotted in at right guard in Vaitai's absence.
- After averaging fewer than eight pressures given up over the first six games, the Lions' offensive line allowed 13 pressures against Baltimore. They also surrendered two sacks after giving up just four over the first six weeks.
Best player: Frank Ragnow
- Ragnow had an uncharacteristically bad game against the Ravens. After allowing just five pressures over the first six games, he surrendered four pressures — all in the second half — against Baltimore.
2. Philadelphia Eagles (Up 1)
Projected Week 8 starters:
LT Jordan Mailata
LG Landon Dickerson
C Jason Kelce
RG Sua Opeta
RT Lane Johnson
- The Eagles' offensive line has allowed more than 10 pressures in back-to-back games. They allowed more than 10 pressures in just two games during the 2022 regular season.
- Philadelphia’s offensive line gave up 13 pressures — including one sack — on 36 dropbacks. The unit’s pass-blocking efficiency rating ranked just 25th out of 26 teams in Week 7.
Best player: Lane Johnson
- Johnson fought through injury to play against the Dolphins and still did not allow a single sack or quarterback hit.
3. Atlanta Falcons (Up 2)
Projected Week 8 starters:
LT Jake Matthews
LG Matthew Bergeron
C Drew Dalman
RG Chris Lindstrom
RT Kaleb McGary
- While the Falcons' offensive line allowed just seven pressures against Tampa Bay, four were charged to right tackle Kaleb McGary.
- Drew Dalman’s 90.1 run-blocking grade leads all centers in the NFL in 2023.
Best player: Chris Lindstrom
- Lindstrom was the NFL’s highest-graded offensive lineman in Week 7, with a 92.1 overall mark.
4. Baltimore Ravens (Up 2)
Projected Week 8 starters:
LT Ronnie Stanley
LG John Simpson
C Tyler Linderbaum
RG Kevin Zeitler
RT Morgan Moses
- The Ravens' offensive line held up well against a stout Detroit pass rush, allowing just one hit or sack on 37 dropbacks. Four of the five starting offensive linemen earned 76.0-plus pass-blocking grades, with right tackle Morgan Moses being the lone exception.
- Center Tyler Linderbaum has not allowed a sack or hit so far this season, and his 98.4 pass-blocking efficiency rating ranks eighth among centers.
Best player: Ronnie Stanley
- Stanley's blocking in front of quarterback Lamar Jackson on Baltimore’s first touchdown was one of the offensive line highlights of Week 7.
