New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley missed practice Wednesday while in COVID-19 protocol, the team announced.
Barkley, who’s also still dealing with an ankle injury that has forced him to miss New York’s last three games, tested positive for COVID-19 and is being retested, according to a report by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

If Barkley’s second test comes back positive, he’ll be placed on the COVID-19 reserve list and would need two positive tests 24 hours apart to be activated since he’s vaccinated.
Devontae Booker has filled in since Barkley injured his ankle in Week 5. Booker has compiled 216 yards and two touchdowns across 64 attempts this season and added 17 catches for 138 yards and another score. The Giants have also sparingly used Elijhaa Penny as a ball carrier.
The 2-6 Giants play the 5-2 Las Vegas Raiders at home on Sunday.

Barkley missed 14 games last season with a torn ACL. He’s at risk of missing a fourth game this season if he winds up on the COVID-19 list.
If he's cleared to play, the former No. 2 overall pick would fall around the RB10 range in PFF's consensus fantasy rankings. If he's declared inactive, Booker would fall around RB15.
