The New Orleans Saints used valuable draft capital on cornerback Marshon Lattimore when they made him a first-round pick in 2017, and they're now investing in him once more.
Lattimore is signing a five-year, $97.6 million extension with $68.3 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal makes him the second-highest-paid corner in the league, behind the Los Angeles Rams‘ Jalen Ramsey ($20M per year). Lattimore's $19.52 million per year puts him just ahead of Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey ($19.5 million per year).
A first-round pick in 2017, Lattimore was entering the final year of his rookie contract. The 25-year-old has been one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks, earning Pro Bowl honors and being named Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first season. Lattimore has since been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons.

BETTING IMPACT
Saints on the move in lookahead lines: Before the Saints' unexpected demolition of the Packers in Week 1, they were two-point road favorites against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2, but that game has re-opened with the Saints as a field-goal favorite.
If the Saints' can continue forward their play from Week 1, they should remain in contention for a wildcard berth. And Lattimore will be a big reason for their continued defensive success after a strong performance to open the 2021 NFL season.
