The Raiders provided official word of Gruden's resignation Monday night, releasing a statement from the now ex-head coach:
"I have resigned as Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone."

Gruden sent the emails before he was re-hired by the Raiders in 2018. They were discovered during the NFL’s investigation into the Washington Football Team and its owner, Daniel Snyder.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday afternoon that Gruden sent an email to then-Washington executive VP/general manager Bruce Allen using a racist trope about NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith.
The New York Times reported Monday night that Gruden sent emails containing homophobic slurs and misogynistic emails during a seven-year span before being hired by Las Vegas in 2018.
Gruden met with Raiders owner Mark Davis on Monday before announcing to his coaching staff and players that he was resigning, Pelissero and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
