The Carolina Panthers placed running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve for a second time, officially ending his season. McCaffrey suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s 33-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He was spotted in a walking boot after the game.

McCaffrey underwent an MRI on Monday, and it “revealed an injury severe enough to place him on injured reserve,” per the team.

McCaffrey missed five games earlier this season with a hamstring injury. He finishes the year with 99 carries for 442 yards with one rushing touchdown and 37 catches on 41 targets for 343 yards with a touchdown and an 81.1 overall PFF grade.
McCaffrey’s top backups are Chuba Hubbard (64.6 overall grade) and Ameer Abdullah (59.9 overall grade). Hubbard, a rookie out of Oklahoma State, has 122 carries for 427 yards with three touchdowns and 19 catches for 152 yards in 12 games this season. Abdullah has 21 carries for 65 yards and 13 catches for 112 yards in six games with Carolina.
