The 2023-2024 NFL season is over for the unfortunate 18 NFL teams that fell short of the playoffs. And just like every year, there are now several head coach and general manager vacancies that need to be filled.
Unlike years past, a lot of these jobs have been available for weeks or months now following in-season firings, and the interview process is moving at a rapid pace. Here’s a full rundown of all those general manager and head coaching vacancies, confirmed candidates and some other notes.
This post will be updated as we gather more information, so be sure to bookmark this page in preparation for the 2024 NFL offseason.
ATLANTA FALCONS
The Falcons made what many would consider the surprise Black Monday firing of the 2024 cycle, relieving Arthur Smith of his duties after the division-rival New Orleans Saints ran up the score in a 48-17 Week 18 victory. The week prior, the Chicago Bears completely outmatched Atlanta and ran away with a 37-17 victory.
Smith and the Falcons finished 7-10 in three consecutive seasons and made little use of three straight top-10 picks in his offense.
The team retained general manager Terry Fontenot, so perhaps Atlanta will look to pair a new head coach with defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, who followed Fontenot from New Orleans to Atlanta last offseason.

CAROLINA PANTHERS
The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Frank Reich after a tumultuous 1-10 start to the 2023 season, with Reich visibly frustrated with ownership at press conferences as things began to spiral. General manager Scott Fitterer was then relieved of his duties after the conclusion of a 2-15 campaign that will now send the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 Draft to the Chicago Bears.
Carolina and owner David Tepper have retained the services of consulting firm “Sportsology” to help oversee their process. Assistant general manager Dan Morgan will simultaneously interview for the position and also assist with the search.

LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
The Las Vegas Raiders fired general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels on Halloween night after a disappointing 3-5 start to the season and continued the campaign under the direction of interim general manager Champ Kelly and interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
Players made it very clear they were happy with the change at head coach, smoking more cigars than Sir Winston Churchill after McDaniels was let go. The Raiders closed out the season on a 5-4 run, with the defense showing dramatic improvement under Pierce and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham’s stewardship. Star players such as Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams have also publicly expressed their desire for Pierce to become the full-time head coach.

The Los Angeles Chargers fired general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Brandon Staley after a disastrous 63-21 showing against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15.
While the salary cap situation and overall talent level across the roster leave a ton to be desired, franchise quarterback Justin Herbert single-handedly makes this an attractive opening for prospective general managers and head coaches.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
The Patriots made the difficult decision to part ways with the greatest coach in football history, ending a 24-year run with Bill Belichick at the helm of a dynasty the likes of which we may never see again.
New England has to add not only a new head coach but also a head of football operations, and the latter responsibilities may have ultimately been the undoing of Belichick’s tenure. Belichick’s defenses continued to thrive, but several poor draft classes resulted in the team fielding one of the league's worst offenses.
Latest on head coach search:
- The New England Patriots had a clause in Jerod Mayo’s contract that named him the successor to Bill Belichick, and Mayo has been named as the next head coach of the organization.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
The Seahawks announced that the organization and legendary head coach Pete Carroll have amicably agreed to transition Carroll into an advisor role while conducting a search for a new head coach.
Carroll’s Seahawks impressively made the playoffs in 2022 but took a step back in 2023 and continued to struggle mightily on the defensive side of the ball.

TENNESSEE TITANS
The Titans hired general manager Ran Carthon last offseason and are now looking to replace head coach Mike Vrabel after an incredibly successful tenure.
Vrabel orchestrated four consecutive winning seasons and secured a No. 1 seed in the AFC and an AFC championship game appearance. Outwardly, Vrabel seemed resistant to undergoing a rebuild, which this roster clearly was in desperate need of heading into 2023. Instead, Tennessee was very active in free agency and prolonged the rebuilding process.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
The Commanders underwent a fire sale at the trade deadline and smartly earned the No. 2 overall draft pick before firing head coach Ron Rivera after four seasons and also removing the general manager title from Martin Mayhew.
Washington was acquired by a group led by Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris, and Harris has already made changes and additions to the front office, notably hiring Eugene Shen as senior vice president of football strategy.
To help conduct their searches, Harris and company have retained the services of former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers and former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.
