- Ending the uncertainty, Manish Mehta reported that New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles has confirmed that veteran Josh McCown will start the season opener, winning the job over Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg.
- Petty was actually the Jets highest graded quarterback this preseason, slightly edging out McCown with a grade of 78.2 to his 76.2. Hackenberg, a second round pick last year struggled and produced a grade of just 49.6, failing to grab the starting job for himself.
- McCown's highest graded season since 2006 came in 2013 (86.2), but he has graded above 60.0 just three times in that 11 year span. He struggled with accuracy as the Browns starting quarterback last year, ranking 36th out of 37 qualifying quarterbacks with an adjusted completion percentage of 65.8%.
