- According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, ‘DeShone Kizer is a better bet to win the starting job’ over veteran Cody Kessler even with Kessler entering the Cleveland Browns training camp as the starter.
- Kessler ranked 25th out 33 qualified QBs last year obtaining an overall grade of just 74.7. He did however post the 6th best passer rating when under pressure (82.4), out of 37 QBs with at least 183 dropbacks. This despite being pressured on 47.5% of his dropbacks, the most by those same 37 QBs.
- Kizer obtained an overall grade of 77 last season playing at Notre Dame, which ranked 9th out of the 10 QBs drafted in 2017. Play action passing is his strength where he posted a passer rating of 154.7 in 2016, best in the nation, and could be the edge he needs to win the starting job.
'Good chance' Kizer will start over Cody Kessler
