Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus corner backs. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.
Week 3 matchup upgrades
DeAndre Hopkins vs. NY Giants – The Texans passing game started to look more like what we expected last week, and we should get more of the same in this matchup. Hopkins projects as one of the top-scoring receivers of the week with primary coverage slated to come from Janoris Jenkins. Last week, Jenkins managed to surrender seven catches on seven targets for 105 yards and a score to the lackluster Cowboys receiver corps.
Adam Thielen vs. Buffalo – Thielen was one of last week’s top fantasy performers and is a good bet to do more of the same in this one. He will see primary coverage from Rafael Bush out of the slot this week. So far this season, Bush has covered 40 routes and allowed all six of his targets to be caught. Thielen is a major mismatch for Bush. He’ll have his way on Sunday.
