The fantasy football waiver wire is going to be busy this week after a terribly potent week when it came to injuries to key players. Both sides of the ball took some hits this past week, and we’re here to help you find the best options to claim on the waiver wire for IDP leagues get ahead of your league-mates in time for Week 3.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Kerry Hyder Jr., DE, San Francisco 49ers
The biggest injury on defense from this past weekend was Nick Bosa tearing his ACL and being lost for the rest of the season. This is a massive blow to plenty of IDP rosters and, unfortunately, not one that is an easy fix. Looking at the 49ers' roster, Kerry Hyder Jr. has been the one to fill in on the right side of the defensive line, where Bosa saw the majority of his snaps. With Dee Ford also dealing with injuries (back and neck), it looks like Hyder’s heavy workload as the team’s starting edge-rusher opposite Arik Armstead will continue at least into next week.
A positive sign for anyone picking up Hyder at this point has been his production through two weeks this season, managing 12 total tackles — which includes a sack. Hyder’s pass-rush ability (66.4 pass-rush grade) does leave something to be desired, especially when compared to Bosa, but his snap count and tackle volume will hopefully help to make up for deficiencies elsewhere. With the league's worst pass-blocking unit, the New York Giants, next up on the schedule, and assuming Dee Ford will continue to miss time, Hyder could be in a nice position to contribute to your roster right away.
MRI confirms that #49ers DE Nick Bosa has indeed suffered a torn left ACL.
