Another week of NFL action is in the books. As the dust settles, just one team reigns supreme: the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers. Just like we all predicted.
Week 8 brought more injuries, so with certain players' availability up in the air, we're going to need replacements off the waiver wire ASAP for Darrell Henderson, Tevin Coleman, T.Y. Hilton, Kenny Golladay, Adam Humphries, Chris Carson, Cooper Kupp, George Kittle and Jimmy Garroppolo.
Week 8 also sees the continuation of the dreaded bye weeks. The Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles are all taking some time off, so fill-ins will be needed for Joe Burrow, Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, Kareem Hunt, Cooper Kupp and Travis Fulgham.
And for those who are more forward-thinking, this is a great time to plan ahead knowing that the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets are off in Week 10.
Now, on to the top waiver-wire targets for Week 9. This list of players includes anyone rostered in approximately 50% of Yahoo leagues or less, with deep league options at every position as well. I’ll also share my thoughts on FAB (Free Agent Budget) bids and how much to spend on each player accordingly.
QUARTERBACKS
DEREK CARR, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS – 42% ROSTERED – 5% OF FAB
Derek Carr put up a stinker in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, but the weather was more to blame than Carr’s play. He set a season-low in completions (15) and attempts (24) because the wind gusts made it nearly impossible to throw downfield.
Carr should be in an easy bounce-back spot in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks in 2020 and the second-most points over the past four weeks.
The Chargers also predominantly run zone coverage schemes, and Carr has the fourth-highest passer rating against zone this season (103.5).
