Fantasy Football: Top 10 sleepers

  • Take a chance on rookies: While top rookies Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jordan Addison are getting picked too early to be considered sleepers, there are plenty of other options who could have a huge rookie season.
  • Rashaad Penny lands in the ideal spot: Penny has been excellent when healthy and will now be running behind the NFL's best offensive line.
  • Can Chigoziem Okonkwo stay efficient on more snaps?: The Tennessee Titans tight end was the best tight end on a per-play basis last year and should see more playing time this season.

Estimated Reading Time: 15 minutes

These sleepers are ten players with a 120-plus ADP on ESPN that I have ranked notably higher. Some of these players will have a top-120 ADP at other sources where a higher percentage of users are experts, but a variety of players were picked so at least some players could be considered a sleeper at any site.

Rashaad Penny, Philadelphia Eagles (ADP: 135.5)

Penny has been an excellent fantasy option when healthy, but he’s played 18 games over the last three years.

  • Penny was drafted in the first round in 2018 and was the Seattle Seahawks starting running back for the past two seasons when healthy.
  • Penny has averaged 1.3 carries of at least 15 yards per game since 2021, helping him record 10.5 rushing fantasy points per game. That ranks second and sixth, respectively, among backs with at least 15 games in the span.
  • He has finished as a top-four fantasy running back in four of his past 10 games.
  • Penny is going from the Seahawks, who typically have a below-average offensive line, to the Eagles, who have the best.
  • He averaged more than 6.0 yards per carry in each of the past two seasons behind Seattle’s offensive line. It’s hard for a running back to be much better, but this will at least help him not regress.
  • If Penny is still the same player he was before his leg tibia fracture and can stay healthy, he could have a huge season in the Eagles' offense.
  • Chances are that  D’Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell will restrict Penny’s playing time. Penny has never been a receiving back, hauling in 27 passes over five seasons. Ideally, Penny gets the early-down role while one of the other two plays on passing downs.
  • Penny and Swift have been two of the most-injured running backs in recent seasons. There is a high chance one or both players miss time this season. Penny could easily have a few monster weeks, a few weeks in a shared backfield and a few weeks injured.
  • We will hopefully know ahead of time which games it makes sense to start him.
  • It’s hard to find any sleeper running back in any recent season who has the proven upside Penny possesses.
