Recapping the quarterback streaming options featured in Week 7, it was a fruitful week as all three of the featured streaming options finished inside the top 10 fantasy QBs Sunday. Of the three honorable mention picks, Kirk Cousins (QB5) and Alex Smith (QB11) also helped fantasy owners, all of which should help further the case for streaming the position.
Week 7 | Fantasy Points | Fantasy Rank | PFF Passing Grade |
Tyrod Taylor | 22 | 5th | 2nd |
Jameis Winston | 21 | 6th | 6th |
Marcus Mariota | 18 | 8th | 22st |
Notes: Following a lackluster Week 1, and then an injury to Sammy Watkins, expectations were pretty low for Tyrod Taylor. But as discussed last week, his mobility and decision-making are the traits that make up for his low volume and provide a weekly high floor… Jameis Winston had not stacked up well in our metrics for much of the season, but that changed in Week 7, and he’s now approaching QB1 territory in terms of fantasy production… Somewhat quietly (considering he was started in only about a third of ESPN leagues in Week 7 and remains available in almost half), Marcus Mariota has thrown for multiple touchdowns in all but two games and is now the No. 6 fantasy QB on the season.
Looking ahead to Week 8, six teams have a bye: Baltimore, Los Angeles, Miami, New York Giants, Pittsburgh and San Francisco. While that’s not exactly a who’s who of heavily invested fantasy QBs (save for Ben Roethlisberger, who’s hurt anyway), owners of guys like Russell Wilson, Carson Palmer, Blake Bortles and Eli Manning have been in scramble mode. And with six more teams on bye in Week 9, now is a good time to get a feel for the available options on your league’s waiver wire (or on your bench) and start looking ahead to matchups.
Below are the most attractive options for QB streaming in Week 8, listed by ownership and start percentages from ESPN leagues as well as FanDuel salary. Deeper league options are listed in the honorable mention section.
Week 8
Jameis Winston (TB vs. OAK) – 53.6% owned/22.7% started/$7,400 FanDuel salary
I highlighted Winston’s upcoming schedule in this space last week, and given how many leagues he remains unowned or on the bench in, he warrants another mention here. On tap for Tampa Bay in Week 8 is a Raiders defense that has given up three or more passing touchdowns in three of their games, with an average of nearly 400 yards allowed through the air in those contests. Granted, in their other four games, the Raiders have yielded only two passing TDs total.
