As we do every July during the run-up to NFL training camp, we are taking a spin around the league to ask and answer a pressing fantasy question for each team. This year we kick things off in the AFC East, the literal stomping ground of the Super Bowl champion Patriots.
Buffalo Bills
Will any Bills not named LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, or Tyrod Taylor gain fantasy-relevancy?
The Bills traded up to select East Carolina’s Zay Jones 37th overall in this year’s draft. They sunk even more into Charles Clay two years ago in what endures as one of the league’s worst contracts. The Patriots pilfered uber-efficient Mike Gillislee — last season’s 27th-highest-scoring running back — on a restricted free agent deal, opening up a potential 110 touches for Jonathan Williams. Departures at wide receiver freed up 132 targets (155 with suspended Walt Powell’s workload) and the Bills didn’t exactly import household names. Rick Dennison is a nine-year offensive coordinator (in Denver and Houston), who will increase how often Buffalo throws, if only because it’d be hard to throw less than during the Rex Ryan error era (32nd and 31st in pass attempts).
