We’re now just days away from training camp 2017 and weeks away from the first batch of preseason games, and fantasy draft season is on the horizon. As we’ve done for the past several years, we’re once again going to unveil our fantasy football team power rankings leading into the season.
The power rankings rank the overall value each team brings to the fantasy table. It’s not a ranking of how good each team is on the real football field.
As usual, we again took a statistical approach to rankings the teams. The rankings are based on our own 2017 player projections. The series assumes a 12-team standard league with a starting lineup of one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, and one flex position. Kickers and D/STs are not accounted for.
Clear? Good! It’s simple enough. Let’s get on with it.
No. 32: Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams bring up the rear as the No. 32 team in this year’s fantasy power rankings. They were No. 30 leading into 2016. Overall, the Rams offer fantasy owners just 37.7 percent as much value than the average NFL team.
It’s amazing that things have gotten worse for the Rams, but they have. In fact, they have just one fantasy-relevant player leading into 2017: Todd Gurley.
Gurley is a borderline RB1 who obviously has incredible upside (his 2015 year) but is also a risky pick (2016). Scott Barrett wrote a great piece a few weeks ago exploring whether Gurley’s 2015 or 2016 should be given more weight.
