  • Juwan Johnson enters his third season at tight end: The former wide receiver changed positions in 2021 with an increased role each season.
  • Johnson faces more competition for playing time: The New Orleans Saints added Foster Moreau, who has played four seasons with the Saints' new quarterback Derek Carr.
  • Check your scoring system before drafting him: He ranked much higher among tight ends in non-PPR leagues compared to PPR leagues.

Juwan Johnson‘s player outlook

Johnson is a sleeper option based on his touchdown total and how his season ended.

  • He started his career as an undrafted wide receiver who transitioned to tight end in 2021.
  • Johnson became the Saints' primary receiving tight end in 2022 while rotating with several players on early downs.
  • He was impressive once he got the ball in his hands. He avoided 0.19 tackles per reception and scored a touchdown on 16.7% of his receptions, ranking third and second-most among tight ends, respectively.
  • All seven of his touchdowns from 2022 came in a seven-game stretch from Weeks 7-15.
  • His problem was volume, as he saw 3.8 targets per game, leading to 2.6 receptions and 31.8 yards. Those ranked anywhere from 19th-22nd.
  • Tight ends with not much volume but a lot of touchdowns end up having very different values depending on the league scoring system.
  • His 5.8 fantasy points per game in zero PPR leagues ranked ninth, but his 8.4 in PPR leagues was 17th.
  • Johnson has 8.425 PPR fantasy points per game, which ranked 17th out of 97 tight ends with at least 10 games since 2022.
  • He only achieved over 50 receiving yards twice last season. They were in Weeks 15 and 17, where he accumulated 67 and 62 yards, respectively.
  • He will be 27 years old to start the season, which is around the time that tight ends peak. Considering he’s only played the position for two seasons, there should be a little more optimism that he can improve than other tight ends his age.
