The likes of Russell Wilson, Saquon Barkley, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Damien Harris, Daniel Jones, Maxx Williams, Deonte Harris and Kenny Golladay are all dealing with new or ongoing injuries that could cost significant time in some cases.
And don’t forget that Week 6 marks the beginning of the dreaded bye weeks. The Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers will all be taking rest, so key pieces like Cordarelle Patterson, Alvin Kamara, Corey Davis and Deebo Samuel will need to be replaced. For those thinking ahead, the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers are all off in Week 7, so adjust waivers accordingly.
RUNNING BACKS
KHALIL HERBERT, CHICAGO BEARS
Damien Williams was the hot-ticket item off the waiver wire before Week 5, but there is another Bears running back who also needs to be added. Sixth-rounder Khalil Herbert aka “Juice” out-snapped (34 versus 31) Williams this week and handled the same number of touches (18).
All of Herbert’s touches were carries, which he converted into 75 rushing yards. Chicago is hell-bent on establishing the run with Justin Fields at quarterback, so Herbert has RB3/FLEX appeal operating in a committee with Williams.
SAMAJE PERINE, CINCINNATI BENGALS
Perine led all Bengals running backs in snaps/touches with Joe Mixon limited due to an ankle injury. Mixon should see his workload increased with week to recover from his injury, but Perine needs to be rostered in case any re-injury occurs to the starter.
