Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season is nearly finished, and that means it’s time for us to scour the waiver wire in our fantasy football leagues. This past week’s slate of games resulted in some interesting scenarios in terms of injuries, increased usage rates and random breakouts.
The following players are the best potential waiver wire additions ahead of Week 6.
Dallas Cowboys QB Andy Dalton – 3% rostered
Arguably, the worst news of the weekend was the severe injury suffered by starter Dak Prescott. The season is over for the MVP-hopeful, which is unfortunate, but it does create an opportunity for Dalton, the veteran whom the Cowboys signed in case of this exact scenario. Dalton registered 21 snaps on Sunday, completing nine of his 11 passing attempts for 111 passing yards while leading the Cowboys to a game-winning drive with two absolute dimes to wide receiver Michael Gallup.
Dalton immediately slots into a premium situation with the Cowboys and their studly offense. He should be targeted in all formats.
Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith – 1% rostered
Washington went from starting Dwayne Haskins to starting Kyle Allen to transitioning to the veteran in Smith over the span of one week. It appears that Smith may be the guy moving forward, and he probably should be with how lackluster the offense has been under the two aforementioned players. Smith registered 29 snaps of playing time, which actually out-snapped Allen's 23 snaps.
