Welcome to the Week 9 DraftKings Tournament Guide! This Guaranteed Prize Pool overview covers the main slate on DraftKings and how to approach the week with roster building strategies, games to target, and cheap salary-saving dart throws that could reach their ceilings this week. Let’s get right into Week 9 and analyze how we should be approaching the main slate for tournaments this week.

Roster-building strategies

Leaving salary on the table

I’m going back to basics with some elementary strategies this week on ways to construct rosters in tournaments. One thing people feel the need to do is spend every single dollar. Even if that means moving up from a player in a perfect spot in a perfect situation to a guy worth a few hundred dollars extra just because you have it available. Don’t.

There’s no single way to build rosters in tournaments, but you want your roster to a) highly correlate between the plays selected and b) tell a story of how each of your players has the chance to go off for a big day. Moving off the optimal lineup you built that checks both these boxes just because you have a little bit of extra salary can come back to bite you. Sometimes you can have the perfect build, but just because you have an extra $400, you “upgrade” a piece and your correlation deteriorates.

It’s okay to leave a couple hundred dollars on the board. In fact, leaving money on the board naturally makes your roster a bit more contrarian and unique than others with most people spending 100% of theirs. This strategy is more commonly used in other sports, but it remains applicable here. I’m not saying leave a couple thousand on the table, but if you have what you perceive as the optimal roster with $500 or fewer still available to spend, keep it in your pocket and use it later as a late swap option.
