Welcome to the Week 5 DraftKings tournament guide! This Guaranteed Prize Pool overview covers the main slate on DraftKings and how to approach the week with roster building strategies, games to target, and cheap salary-saving dart throws that could reach their ceilings this week. Let’s get right into Week 5 and analyze how we should be approaching the main slate for tournaments this week.

Roster-building strategies

Contrarian access to shootouts

This week is incredibly tough. The main slate is laden with fantastic plays at every position and at every price point. It’s going to force us to make some tough decisions come Sunday. One of my favorite ways to handle these types of weeks is to find contrarian access to the top projected scoring games without limiting your ceiling.

For example, the Falcons-Steelers game is currently set at a 58-point game total. We know both these defenses allow a ton of points and that it should draw plenty of high ownership. We can implement this contrarian mantra by fading the high price tags of Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster and target James Conner instead.

Conner has had a rough last few games where he’s been gamescripted out of heavy touches, but this game could be a back-and-forth affair where Pittsburgh can return to running the ball effectively. Atlanta’s injuries at linebacker and safety have been well-documented, but the Falcons is also adding DT Grady Jarrett (already ruled out) to that list this week. Jarrett is currently our top 4-3 defensive tackle run-stopper, posting a league-high 17.2% run-stop percentage. That rate is higher than the last two years of what infamous run-stopper Damon Harrison has posted. The Steelers’ 30.5 points are the most of any team. Conner’s projected ownership (14.5%) makes for a lesser-owned way to gain access to this shootout instead of rostering Brown (28.12%) or Smith-Schuster (21.09%).
