Welcome to the 2019 Conference Championship DraftKings GPP guide. This fantasy football tournament overview will cover some of the top core plays, stacking options, and some low-owned contrarian darts that could help pay off handsomely and hopefully lead to you taking down a tournament. This week — more than any other week — is important for us to build a “story” with our lineups, anticipating how the two games will be played out and building a roster that correlates well to that narrative. I believe, and our numbers agree, that both home teams have the highest probability of advancing to the Super Bowl. I’ll be building my lineups with that angle in mind.
Chalk plays
Todd Gurley ($7,500)
Taking a backseat to the C.J. Anderson show last week, Gurley hit the 100-yard mark and let his teammate do the majority of the heavy lifting in a game that was less close than the final score may indicate. This week, the Rams are currently 3.5-point road underdogs to the Saints and their No. 3-graded run defense. Underdog status likely means we can pencil Gurley in for an uptick in targets and expect less Anderson without garbage rushing time. Opposing backs have struggled rushing against New Orleans (3.2 yards per carry), but we’ve seen Sean McVay scheme his offense to give Gurley beneficial looks at the line of scrimmage. Of the 55 running backs with at least 85 rushing attempts, only Tarik Cohen and Wendell Smallwood faced fewer eight-man boxes than Gurley (8.2%) during the regular season. Add in the loss of defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (12 tackles for loss), and the versatile Gurley looks like a lock at his bargain bin price of just $7.5K.
Damien Williams ($6,400)
