Welcome to our DraftKings tournament guide, where each week we look at some top DFS strategies and advice for the GPP slates. Last week was one where I recommended scaling back on GPPs due to the poor matchups and how the slate looked. If you didn’t have Dallas stacks, you likely didn’t net a major payout last week. This week looks a lot more difficult to build cash lineups, but a terrific one to target heavily in GPPs. There’s a ton of potential gamestacks here for us to target, with a lot of the early Vegas totals looking a bit too low based on the recent play we’ve seen. Make sure to keep an eye on weather this week — several games could be impacted — but let’s dive into the Week 8 slate and which players you should be targeting in tournaments.

Quarterback
For any newcomers, I’m going to continue to stick to the main slate here in this article. My top quarterback play of the week is Cam Newton ($6,600), taking on a porous Buccaneers defense. After failing to throw for a passing touchdown last week, I’m anticipating a big bounceback week for him here in a potential shootout with Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers rank 32nd in Pass DVOA and have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this year. Four of their six opponents have put up at least 20 DraftKings points against them, including a 30-burger by Case Keenum. Devin Funchess and Kelvin Benjamin both have great matchups against Tampa Bay’s secondary, with at least a six-inch height advantage on each of their starting cornerbacks. Robert McClain and Vernon Hargreaves both rank bottom-20 among all CBs and Brent Grimes ranks a nice 69th at the position. This trio’s poor play has led to the Buccaneers allowing the third-most passing yards per game to start the year. If the weather cooperates, this could be an absolute ceiling-type performance from Newton.
On a week with tight pricing, it wouldn’t shock me to see Carson Wentz ($7,200) draw lower ownership than he should. Wentz has been lighting up opposing defenses lately, throwing for 11 passing touchdowns over his last three games. Speaking of poor trio of cornerbacks, San Francisco’s Rashard Robinson, Dontae Johnson, and K’Waun Williams all rank among our bottom-25 cornerbacks this season. The last three quarterbacks to face them have fared pretty, pretty good. Dak Prescott scored 30 fantasy points, Kirk Cousins had 31.8, and Jacoby Brissett netted 22.0. Eagles are massive 13-point home favorites and should have no problems piling on the points in this one.
