DFS guide: Playing DraftKings in the Divisional Round

FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 16: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots looks on with Rob Gronkowski #87 in the second half against the Kansas City Chiefs during the AFC Divisional Playoff Game at Gillette Stadium on January 16, 2016 in Foxboro, Massachusetts. (Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images)

If you’re anything like me, you can’t get enough football DFS. Preseason, postseason, short slates, 16-game slates, it doesn’t matter. When there’s a slate to play on, there’s generally an edge to be had by out-working and out-researching our opponents. Given the nature of this shorter slate, I’ll be mixing up the typical position-by-position format utilized in the regular season. Instead, I’ll take a look at players projected to be the chalk at their positions, some stacks for you to utilize, contrarian darts that may go overlooked, and any potential onslaughts worth targeting.

Chalk Plays

Le’Veon Bell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers ($9,700)

Fresh off a two-week hiatus, Bell will likely be this week’s highest-owned player across all positions. Bell’s touch workload (27.1 per game) makes his high price something we can stomach, but the matchup doesn’t inspire confidence. Jacksonville’s run defense has been tremendous since acquiring Marcell Dareus in Week 9:

The Jaguars have allowed just one 20-point outing to an opposing back since acquiring Dareus (Austin Ekeler, 27.9). While Bell’s floor makes him worthy of considering in cash games, he’ll need to pay off with a ton of receiving work to warrant paying up at his $9,700 price tag.
