DFS guide: Week 7 in DraftKings cash games

We're back again this week, looking at the top cash game plays for DraftKings DFS tournaments.

I love it when the chalk hits. Last week there were some massive points put up in cash games and a lot of it was centered around many of the plays discussed in Week 6’s Cash Game Guide. Outside of coverboy Kevin Hogan, nearly everyone hit. Week 7 doesn’t provide as many free squares like last week’s Mark Ingram ($4,400) and Jerick McKinnon ($4,100). Tighter pricing by DraftKings this week is going to force us to make smarter plays and spend our money wisely. Here’s how I’ll be approaching each position.

Quarterbacks

The main slate on DK this week is ugly. I’m not going to beat around the bush. As such, most of my contests will already be live by the time this article gets published as I’m targeting the Thursday/Monday slate heavily. Getting exposure to the two big shootouts between Atlanta at New England (Sunday night) and Washington at Philadelphia (Monday night) is the only way to find value.

Carson Wentz is a must-play for me in cash. Priced at just $6,700, Wentz has an ideal matchup against a Washington secondary that will likely be without it’s best playmaker once again (CB Josh Norman). In their earlier Week 1 matchup, Wentz threw for 307 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Vegas really likes this game for the Eagles, as they currently have them as 4.5-point home favorites and the third-highest implied team total of the week. It’s no secret where Wentz is going with the ball when he takes the snap. Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz are combining for just shy of 50 percent of the team’s target market share, and both rank top-five at their position in air yards. Both are in terrific positional matchups this week. Wentz has thrown for seven touchdowns over his last two games and looks as sharp as anyone in his sophomore season. He offers both a high floor and high ceiling in this one.

The main slate offers a good number of cheap quarterbacks to build cash games around. The one I’m leaning on rostering the most is Tyrod Taylor ($5,100). The Bills are coming off the bye and are taking on a banged-up Buccaneers defense. Lavonte David, Robert Ayers, Noah Spence, T.J. Ward, and Keith Tandy have all been limited in practice this week. That spells bad news for a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks to start the year. They have also allowed every one of their opponents to either throw for 300 yards or multiple passing touchdowns. It’s lead to each quarterback they’ve faced scoring at least 16 DK points — more than clearing Tyrod’s 3x cash game value.
