This article is long, so I’ll spare you a lengthy intro. Here’s everything need to know for fantasy football in order to dominate your Week 1 DFS tournaments and cash games
Note: This article is published Friday mornings, so it can fall behind some of the more important late-week updates regarding injuries. Be sure to keep an eye on news throughout the weekend, and to apply some of your own intuition on who to play.
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
(DK: QB7, FD: QB10)
Tampa Bay has arguably the most highly concentrated passing attack in the NFL. Winston has seen 64% of his passing yards and 76% of his passing touchdowns go to just two players — Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. With Marshon Lattimore — who shadowed and held Evans to zero catches in Week 5 — a near-lock to sit out this week, both receivers have top matchups, according to our WR/CB matchup chart. With Lattimore out, Eli Apple and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson will be no match for Evans, our No. 4-graded wide receiver this year. They’ll also be no match for our No. 3-graded wide receiver, Godwin. New Orleans has seen a league-high 35% of their (receiving) fantasy points allowed go to slot wide receivers, including 31.5 fantasy points to Godwin in Week 5. Though it’s just one player, Lattimore’s absence is significant enough to make Winston one of the top quarterback plays on the slate. For tournaments, you’ll want to stack him with either one of his wide receivers and run it back with Michael Thomas.
Kyle Allen, QB, Carolina Panthers
(DK: QB20, FD: QB16)
If playing in cash games on DraftKings, where it’s typically recommended you pay down at the quarterback position, your best option would be Allen. He gets his softest matchup of the season, against a Falcons defense that ranks worst in opposing passer rating (113.2), worst in pressure rate (0.29), and fifth-worst in fantasy points allowed per game (22.2). Favored by 6.0 points at home, Carolina has their highest implied point total of the season and the third-highest total of the week (28.25), making Allen a top value on DraftKings. Though his upside is questionable, his pass-catchers are all so cheap that he also warrants tournament consideration.
