Week 16 DFS fades and players to avoid

There’s nothing worse than setting a DFS lineup and watching most of your players under-deliver, only to reevaluating your choices and realize you should have gone a different route — not because of the result, but because of the process.

We’re here to help make sure that doesn’t happen to you this week.

Here are a handful of players I’ll be fading in DFS in Week 16.

Note: There’s always a case to be made for playing any player in tournaments. This list of “fades” is cash game focused, but most of these players can be avoided in tournaments as well. Keep in mind, however, that they might be good contrarian GPP plays because of their tough matchups and/or other issues making them “fade” candidates.

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers

Everyone has Jimmy G fever, and it makes sense after he’s thrown for an average of 336 yards in his first three games. But he’s a fade this week against the Jaguars, who have given up just 190.5 passing yards per game so far this year.

Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans

Mariota draws the Rams, who have allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this year, including multiple scores in just four contests (and only two since Week 4). Mariota has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in three of his past four games and he has only three multi-score games this year.
