Bold prediction time: Davante Adams will be the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2020 fantasy football season. OK, this may not be that bold of a prediction, but Michael Thomas is consistently picked in fantasy drafts in the middle of the first round and typically comes off the board well ahead of Adams.
I believe that Davante Adams may have a 2019 Michael Thomas season up his sleeve and that he'll be a fantasy football league-winning player in 2020. Consider the key factors that helped lead Thomas to a historic 2019 season and you will see a lot of familiarity with Adams’ situation in 2020:
- Elite talent
- Target hog with minimal competition
- Monster red zone role
Combining each of these factors makes Adams a smash pick to be the No. 1 wide receiver in fantasy football in 2020.
Elite talent
First and foremost, Davante Adams is a legitimate superstar wide receiver. Despite being hampered by a foot injury that cost him four games last season, Adams had a strong 88.0 PFF grade (fourth among WRs). Since 2017, Adams has an elite 90.7 PFF grade (sixth). PFF’s Anthony Treash describes Adams as “arguably the best route runner in the entire game” in his top-25 WR rankings.

Adams is no stranger to top-notch fantasy production, either. In 2018, Adams was the No. 1 wide receiver on a per game basis, averaging 22.0 PPR points per game. His receiving stats in 15 games that season were astronomical and demonstrate his massive upside — 162 targets, 111 catches, 1,386 yards, 13 TDs.
