The NFL is littered with intriguing positional battles, but none are more interesting and pertinent to fantasy football and DFS success than the clashes between wide receivers and cornerbacks. The most exploitable matchups are typically the ones that produce strong results, and that is why I’ve analyzed and identified the best and worst matchups for the week.
Listed below are five wide receiver versus cornerback matchups you’ll want to target and five you’ll want to avoid in Week 7 of the 2020 NFL season.
5 WR/CB Matchups to Target
Buffalo Bills WR Gabriel Davis vs. New York Jets CB Lamar Jackson
Davis — who is a rookie — is sure to receive more snaps and work in Sunday’s contest with teammate John Brown being ruled out of the game. While Davis hasn’t received a ton of playing time, he’s pulled in an impressive 14 receptions on 19 targets while producing the same amount of receiving yards as Brown on fewer snaps and targets.
The rookie touts one of the best matchups in this week’s slate of games, as he opposes a cornerback who allows the most fantasy points per route in his coverage, according to PFF’s WR and CB matchup chart. Davis hasn’t been given many opportunities to show off his vertical prowess, but his 13.7-yard average depth of target suggests the Bills do believe in his ability to win deep. Unluckily for Jackson, he’s also allowed the 11th-most receiving yards in his coverage on targets that have traveled 20-plus yards downfield.
