The two-game Thanksgiving slate has come and gone, leaving us with a handful of NFL games on Sunday and Monday to target in our fantasy football leagues and DFS contests. I’ve come away with the matchups to target and avoid in this Week 12 slate of NFL games after analyzing the slate, matchups and usage rates.
Listed below are five wide receiver versus cornerback matchups to target and five to avoid.
5 WR/CB Matchups to Target
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin vs. Kansas City Chiefs Tyrann Mathieu
Godwin has been in and out of the lineup all season due to nagging injuries, but if we look at just the weeks in which he’s played (1, 3, 6-7, 9-11), Godwin leads the Bucs’ receiver room in targets (50), receptions (41), receiving yards (465) and fantasy points (105.5). He appears to be Tom Brady‘s top option, and that should continue in Week 12 as they continue to build their chemistry with Godwin finally healthy and performing.
Not only is Godwin a dominant player, but his matchup is also a great one. He’ll oppose a true veteran in Mathieu, the majority of which will happen in the slot. While Mathieu has allowed a respectable 0.22 fantasy points per route in his coverage, Godwin is provided with a 54% advantage in this matchup, per PFF’s WR and CB matchup chart. That is the second-largest advantage this week.
Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel vs. Minnesota Vikings CB Jeff Gladney
Dating back to Week 7, Samuel actually leads his team’s receiver room in touchdowns (three), in addition to ranking first in red-zone targets (seven). Obviously, he has to share the ball with two star-studded teammates, which lowers his ceiling in certain weeks, but it hasn’t slowed him down; Samuel leads the group in fantasy points (91.1) by a relatively wide margin since Week 7.
