The Chicago Bears kicked off the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick. This pick appeared destined as soon as the Justin Fields trade happened in March of this year. Williams is the top-ranked overall player on the PFF big board, where he is noted to be “a QB with franchise-changing talent that is worthy of a No. 1 overall selection,” which is exactly what the Bears needed.
The Chicago Bears’ new franchise quarterback
Williams posted a very high-end 91.4 PFF passing grade for his college career, performing well across all stable passing metrics while adding so much more playmaking upside with his legs. Williams ran the ball an average of 6.3 times per game in college, leading to over 1,500 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns for his college career and lends to his overall fantasy potential in the NFL.

What being drafted by the Chicago Bears means for Caleb Williams
The Bears had mild success at best last season with Justin Fields at quarterback where DJ Moore and Cole Kmet were the lone consistent fantasy options worth trusting at their positions. However, the Bears have continued to upgrade the offense by adding one of the league’s best receivers in Keenan Allen and a strong receiving running back in D’Andre Swift, while also bringing in Ryan Bates to help the offensive line. Williams is landing in a great offensive situation to thrive as a rookie with a plethora of weapons at his disposal.

Fantasy football outlook
Williams should be in consideration as a top 10-12 dynasty quarterback asset given his high-end playmaking ability, age and the offense around him. In 2024, he should push to be a top-15 option with upside on a weekly basis given his talent and surrounding weapons.
