Heading into 2016, yet again, Rob Gronkowski is the clear No. 1 tight end. In three of his six seasons, Gronkowski has gone over 1,100 receiving yards. In five of his six seasons, he has scored double-digit touchdowns. The only time he didn’t do reach that threshold, he missed nine games.
But if you want him, you’ll have to take him in the first round. And if you do that, you miss out on a top-tier wide receiver or running back. It will cost you.
So why not wait? According to FantasyFootballCalculator.com the next tight end, Jordan Reed, doesn’t come off the board until the end of the third round. Then Tyler Eifert goes in the fifth.
Let’s go even lower than that. No one is Gronkowski, but there are value picks to be had. Here are five players that have a low ADP, but have the potential to be a top-10 talent.
Coby Fleener, New Orleans Saints (current ADP: 77, No. 7 TE)
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints missed Jimmy Graham last year, though not as much as most might have predicted. From 2011 to 2014, Graham averaged 88.75 receptions, 1,099 yards and 11.5 touchdowns per season. In 2015, Ben Watson was the nominal replacement for Graham and posted 74 catches for 825 yards and six touchdowns. But he left for Baltimore in free agency, so over the offseason, the Saints brought in Coby Fleener, the former Indianapolis Colt, hoping he’ll land somewhere in between Watson’s 2015 and Graham’s earlier heights. If he does, he’s a fantasy gold mine.
