The San Francisco 49ers were moments away from tightening the screw on the Chiefs and working their way to another Super Bowl before Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill pulled out a huge play that changed the course of the game. The fortunes of losing Super Bowl teams has not been kind, but the 49ers have positioned themselves to be able to add a pair of impact players in the first round of the NFL Draft to try and propel them back to the big game next season.

The 49ers traded away DeForest Buckner, and while he represents a big void to fill, they have stocked up in that position in recent years and will like their ability to replace him internally. That move earned them the 13th pick in the draft, a rare luxury for a team coming off a Super Bowl loss. The 49ers now have a pick in the teens to go along with their original selection at No. 31, so let’s take a look at how they could best maximize those selections.
