What he does best:
- Demonstrates good footwork on the interior, with good angles to block.
- Competes on every play.
- Good run-blocker when he gets into the block (nice base and feet upon contact).
- Improved his run-blocking grade in each of the last three seasons.
- While he doesn’t create big movement in the run game, he’s difficult to shed.
- Showed versatility having to play guard and tackle.
- Can make the necessary reach blocks to play in a zone scheme.
- Excellent in pass protection when playing guard. Overall, allowed only two sacks, four hits and 19 hurries on 1,239 pass block attempts over the last three years.
- Only penalized 10 times in three years.
Biggest concern:
- Experienced more struggles in pass protection when playing right tackle. Susceptible to being pulled down and giving up the edge.
- Balance issues when playing right tackle. Falls down from time to time.
- Not overly mobile on the go.
- Well-coached at IU; is his ceiling much higher?
- More quasi-bad plays than good plays.
Bottom line: While 2016 was a bit more up and down due to his injuries and playing both right guard and right tackle, Feeney has a strong body of work within Indiana’s offense. He’s a strong pass protector when playing guard and he’s improved enough in the run game to look like a viable player in a zone-heavy scheme at the next level.
