Lions add a linebacker, selecting Jarrad Davis out of Florida

With the 21st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis.
The ability to match up with backs and tight ends made Davis valuable, whether in man or zone — he gave up only one catch of over 20 yards in 2016.
Davis is also an excellent blitzer, highlighting his versatility. He ranked third among SEC draft-eligible linebackers in pass-rush productivity.
The former Gator will likely need some time in the weight room, and to steer clear of injury, to thrive in the NFL.
DeAndre Levy was released after managing only 200 snaps in 2017 through injury, leaving Tahir Whitehead (38.0 overall grade) as the Lions’ only experienced incumbent in the middle.
Inside linebacker was a major need for Detroit.
