2018 Prospect Preview: Oregon RB Royce Freeman closing in on all-time rushing mark

  • Oregon RB Royce Freeman enters the 2017 college season as a Day 2 projection for the 2018 NFL draft. So far, the Oregon senior has amassed 4,146 rushing yards in his college career, and is just 936 yards away from surpassing LaMichael James as Oregon’s all-time leading rusher.
  • Over the last two years, Freeman has shown to be one of the most elusive rushers in college football. In 2015, his elusive rating of 108.6 ranked No. 5 of 169 running backs with at least 95 attempts, and in 2016, his elusive rating of 110.8 ranked No. 2 among 39 draft-eligible running backs.
  • Freeman battled injury during last season, but showed that he has the ability to break away. In 2016, his breakaway percentage (the percentage of yards that come on runs of 15 or more yards) of 51.0 percent ranked No. 1 among 2018 draft-eligible running backs.
  • Having seen his draft stock fall in an injury-marred 2016 season, the Ducks will look to give Freeman more opportunities up front in 2017, having seen one in five of his carries get stopped either at the line of scrimmage or for negative yardage in 2016.
