With NFL training camps in full swing, the NFL futures market is once again a hot topic in the betting world. While a lot of these bets (e.g., season win totals) are of the -110 variety, asking you to tie up a lot of money to win a lot of money, some longer shots only require you to tie up a little money for the chance to win a lot of money.
One longshot bet I like going into the 2022 season is Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary to win Defensive Player of the Year at 75-to-1 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. I talked more about this bet on TikTok.
At 75-to-1, it's essentially a wager that there is a 1.3% or better chance that Gary a) reaches the heights of the top NFL defensive players, and b) he gets recognition for this. Given Gary’s 2021 season, it’s clear that the first point is already true, as his pressure rate last year ranked fourth among all NFL players with 100 or more pass-rushing snaps and his pass-rushing win rate ranked third behind only Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby while placing higher than last year’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year, T.J. Watt.
