Notes
- Outside of Nick Mangold, who was once again knocking at the door of being elite in 2014, the Jets have issues across that offensive line. D'Brickashaw Ferguson hasn't really stood out in each of the past two seasons, and age isn't on his side anymore. Their offensive line has a Pass Blocking Efficiency Rating of 79.7 last season, and it's tough to see this group being any better.
- We were certainly surprised to hear that the Jets are likely to head into the season with Geno Smith as their starting quarterback, with the only talk of a competition with Ryan Fitzpatrick being that the job is Smith's to lose. Smith was our fourth lowest graded quarterback last season, and our third lowest in his rookie season in 2013, so we expected a straight battle between the two.
- The strength of the unit continues to be that strong defensive line, where Sheldon Richardson is the standout while Damon Harrison and Muhammad Wilkerson are quality players in their own right as well. What's going to be interesting is seeing how they use their top draft pick Leonard Williams as a rookie. Cracking the starting lineup will be tough, but limiting his snap count could see him fresher later in games where he can make an impact.
- They still have issues on the edge however, and realistically their best hope of generating much of a pass rush from the edge will come from Jason Babin and anything Lorenzo Mauldin can add as a rookie, with Calvin Pace and Quinton Coples struggling to do so on a consistent basis, and both grading negatively as pass rushers a year ago.
