Sometimes, in a dynasty league, you just need to have a target year. You have a player out for one year but nearing over-the-hill status, so maybe you target a year out. Or … anything, really. Dynasty leagues are volatile, and each owner has a different approach.
With that in mind, today we’re taking a look at the first three rounds of a 2017 mock draft. Note that these aren’t dynasty rankings; what is below is a look at the projected first three rounds of next year. That includes everything that could (and should) happen this year, with progression/regression, injury chances, free agency and next year’s draft. The idea is a standard 12-team league with a flex and four points for passing touchdowns, and we’re running through three rounds (any more than that and the practice becomes even more guesswork than it already is).
For next year’s draft-eligible players, they are ranked and drafted based on where they were selected to go in Steve Palazzolo’s 2017 mock draft.
First, a quick note on the positions ultimately drafted. I had seven running backs taken in the first round; so much for the zero-RB strategy that has become popular on #fantasytwitter (for the most part; two teams escape the first three rounds with no running backs). While the number of running backs that can carry a fantasy team has certainly dwindled, it doesn't make the ones left standing any less important.
Below are the three rounds of a 2017 mock fantasy draft, along projected 2017 teams and ages at the start of the 2017 season.
