The best fantasy QB options to stream for Week 6

SANTA CLARA, CA - OCTOBER 02: Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys changes a play at the line of scrimmage during the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on October 2, 2016 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

Recapping the quarterback streaming options featured in Week 5, there were a handful of QBs either on a bye or on the sidelines due to injury, and lightly owned Brian Hoyer proved most helpful for streaming purposes. Carson Wentz had himself another fine day, save for a game-sealing interception, as he finished in the back-end QB1 range. Ryan Tannehill, on the other hand, looks less and less likely to ever become that franchise QB the Dolphins thought they were getting with the eighth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Week 5 Fantasy Points Fantasy Rank PFF Passing Grade
Brian Hoyer 24 5th 12th
Carson Wentz 17 13th 10th
Ryan Tannehill 4 28th 14th

Notes: Brian Hoyer was owned in less than 4 percent of ESPN leagues during the early part of last week, and his 1,029 passing yards over the last three weeks is tops among all quarterbacks. Hoyer has also completed 71.1 percent of his passes in that span, with six touchdowns and no interceptions despite minimal contributions from Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White… The days of being able to acquire and stream Carson Wentz have come to an end, as our top-graded passer and leader in adjusted completion percentage is now owned in more than 80 percent of ESPN leagues… I did warn of Ryan Tannehill’s warts as a quarterback, and he had just about all of them on display Sunday against Tennessee, marking his second straight dud performance. There’s no question I was wrong on that call, and Tannehill won’t be reappearing in this space any time soon.

Looking ahead to Week 5, only the Vikings and Buccaneers are on bye. Trevor Siemian is expected to return from his shoulder injury to face San Diego on Thursday night, while Carson Palmer and Cam Newton will be monitored as they try and clear the league's concussion protocol. On another note, it was mostly Charlie Whitehurst, and not Terrelle Pryor, who wound up replacing an injured Cody Kessler on Sunday. Both Whitehurst and Kessler are now banged up, but it sounds like one or both should be ready for Sunday. Pryor owners hoping for the rare triple-threat will just have to make do with a two-pronged fantasy asset who can catch and run on game days.

Below are the most attractive options for QB streaming in Week 5, listed by ownership and start percentages from ESPN leagues as well as FanDuel salary.

Week 6

Dak Prescott (DAL @ GB) – 54.4 percent owned/24.6 percent started/$7,200 FanDuel salary

Prescott was an honorable mention choice last week and a recurring name in this space. Like Wentz, Prescott may be in his final days as a widely available streaming option, given his steadily climbing ownership. In Week 6, we’ll keep riding him against a Green Bay defense that is our third-worst graded unit in pass coverage.

Prescott was our top-graded passer in Week 5 against Cincinnati and was the NFL’s most accurate quarterback, recording an adjusted completion percentage of 90.5 on 27 dropbacks. In fact, it marked the best single-game adjusted completion percentage of the season. Prescott rarely chucks the ball down the field, although his average of 7.99 yards per attempt ranks in the top-five for the season. Prescott’s ultra-efficiency has made up for his lack of a vertical game — he’s just 2-of-9 on throws of 20 or more yards this season — as he is completing passes at a 75-percent clip over his last four outings and has yet to throw a pick. He also notched his third rushing touchdown of the season on Sunday.
