Football is nearly here, which means it’s once again time for us to rank all 32 NFL team in terms of what they offer us fake footballers. This series will rank all teams from No. 32 down to No. 1 based on the fantasy value of all of their players.
We’ve taken a statistical approach to rankings the teams to eliminate bias. The rankings are based on our own 2016 player projections. The series assumes a 12-team PPR league with a starting lineup of one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end and one flex position. Kickers and D/STs are not accounted for.
Here are the four teams we're looking at today: (click to enlarge)
No. 32: San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers bring up the rear this year with the No. 32 spot. The 49ers ranked 15th going into the 2015 season and 19th before the 2014 season.
Overall, the 49ers offer fantasy owners 60 percent less value than the average NFL team. The 49ers have the 22nd-best backfield from a fantasy perspective and the second-worst wide receiving corps. Additionally, they are tied for last in terms of quarterback and tight end value (with zero).
Running back Carlos Hyde is by far San Francisco’s best fantasy option — but even he isn’t all that enticing. Hyde is a fringe RB1/high-end RB2 in PPR leagues. He played only seven games last season, compiling 81 total points. On a per-game basis, Hyde ranked 27th among running backs last season.
