There have been a lot of different opinions this offseason on whether or not the 49ers offense will be competent enough to put up points on the scoreboard, and whether or not the skill position players are worth having on your fantasy teams. It’s a great question, because after all, this was the lowest scoring team in the league last year. But can this be rectified, and how fast can that happen? So the question must be asked — for fantasy football, is the San Francisco situation a goldmine, or is it a landmine?
Chip Kelly and the Eagles
Before discussing the specifics of the players involved, we must discuss the key that starts the engine: new head coach Chip Kelly. While most people tie the 49ers to a great defense and a power run game, this is not your father’s 49ers team.
Kelly brings an offensive mind to this team. He turned around an Eagles team that was trending in the wrong direction under Andy Reid. They averaged just 17.5 points per game in 2012, ranking 29th in the league. While turning around an NFL team typically takes time, Kelly had the roster up to 27.6 points per game the following year (fourth-best) in his first year with the team.
